Press Release

Turkish state officials and their press have been reporting for days in relation to a woman named Nurcan Karakaya and her baby losing their lives as the result of an explosion in the base area in the banned military region of Susak (Şuşatkê) in Hakkari’s Gever (Yüksekova) district on July 31.

The region mentioned is a war zone where conflicts are constantly taking place. At least 27 soldiers were killed in conflicts and actions in the region during the days where the mentioned woman and baby allegedly lost the lives. Civilian people have never been our target in our ongoing struggle for over thirty years and civilian people are not our target today. In the same way, the woman and baby were not the target of our guerrillas in this incident, and even if this happened, it has definitely occurred as the result of a mistake.

However, in a battlefield where so many soldiers are killed, it must be known by all that the prominence of this incident by Turkish mainstream media which “if true” has happened as an accident, while other dead soldiers are not mentioned, is all part of efforts to impose a perception on the public in the context of psychological warfare. It is desired to legitimize the massacres carried out by the AKP-MHP fascism in Kurdistan through the propaganda of psychological warfare developed through an incident. All circles should be sensitive to such special war attacks.
