Sefa Altûnay opened his eyes to life as a member of the pioneering family of Kor Hüseyin Pasha.
The Ottoman state and its successor, the Turkish state, through the policies they implemented, made the use of the Kurdish people for their dirty aims their most essential objective. After reaching their aim, the Kurdish people, who had shown great sacrifices in the founding of the republic and fought on many fronts, were faced by the occupier mentality with the most savage attacks of assimilation, denial, and destruction. The Turkish state also pressured the Torun family of the patriotic Heyderan tribe of the Serhed region for decades, and the family was subjected to the harshest oppression. While the sons of Kor Hüseyin Pasha joined and led the Agirî resistance, today his grandchildren continue their patriotic line by joining the Kurdistan freedom struggle.
Sefa's patriotic family, bound to the struggle, did not remain silent in the face of this sacred struggle that had advanced and grown; with their participation they saluted the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas, and many worthy children of this patriotic family flowed into the ranks of the guerrilla. Sefa's maternal uncle
Martyr Sîpan (Îlhamî Taşkin), became the first guerrilla from the Torun family to join the ranks of the struggle and reach martyrdom. Later, many worthy children of this worthy family joined the ranks of the struggle. The patriotic family that, with Martyr Sîpan, built a strong and uninterrupted relationship with the PKK, strengthened this bond even more with every participation.
Sefa, who was born as a member of the Torun family in the village of Kosa, attached to Agirî, grew up according to his language, culture, and history, like his ancient and deep-rooted family. In the patriotic family environment of resistance and war, Sefa's heart and mind, aware of the tricks and lies of the occupiers, grew with the fire of resistance. From the stories and dengbêj songs told by his grandmother, Sefa listened to the pains of his people, the inhuman massacres, and the reality of Kurdish resistance. The pain his grandmother suffered in the Zîlan river and the savagery of the criminal Turkish state always remained alive in Sefa's memory and became a fire of revenge.
He Preserved The Purity And Essence Of The Childhood Spirit He Had Received From His Society
After completing his primary education in the village, Sefa later had to go, in order to finish his education, to schools opened by the colonial Turkish state on the basis of assimilating Kurdish youth. Sefa, who stayed in boarding schools in Bursa and Ankara, longed for a long time for the sacred land of Kurdistan where he had been born and raised. In this process, on one side he witnessed the colonial state's attacks of assimilation and annihilation against Kurdish youth, and on the other he saw the systematic pressures developed against the Kurdish people in Turkey's metropolises. Despite all these attacks, he preserved the purity and essence of the childhood spirit he had received from his society. Sefa, who came to know the PKK through Martyr Sîpan, developed great interest in Leader Apo's philosophy and in the guerrilla struggle that had become a legend in the Serhed region. At every opportunity he tried to know the PKK better. Sefa, who began his university education in Bedlîs, deepened his searches when his paternal uncle's son Jêhat Serhed fell as a martyr in Muş in 2009, and he believed that there had to be an answer. On this basis he dwelled more on Leader Apo's philosophy, found the answers to his questions, and without losing time joined youth work. Sefa, who sustained his life through his own labor, tried to stand on his own feet while studying at the university. Yet he saw the truth that the university environment and city life, which had become the center of capitalism, were distancing him from his values every day. In this process he embraced the work more deeply; although he had carried out militia work for two years, he did not see this struggle as sufficient and believed that no answer could be given to the process without a stronger participation. In 2014, with the dream of a free life and in order to answer the pain of his people, he joined the ranks of the Kurdistan freedom guerrillas.
Before joining the ranks of the struggle, Sefa studied the struggle of the martyrs in depth and was deeply affected by the life, struggle, and June 30 action of Martyr Zîlan. By joining on June 30, he clarified the road he would follow in the struggle. From then on, under the name Serxwebûn, he became a follower of the self-sacrificing line and always took the line of sacrifice as his basis in his life and struggle. Because he joined the guerrilla ranks in the Serhed region, he had the chance to carry out his first practice in this region. Despite difficult conditions, he successfully completed his basic training and carried out an effective practice in Tendûrek. In a short time, with his energetic, sincere, hardworking, and honest personality, he became one with his comrades. After his successful practice in the Serhed region, he turned toward the Medya Defense Areas and continued his practice in the Avaşîn province. Guerrilla Serxwebûn, who deepened himself ideologically, also shared his guerrilla experiences with his new comrades.
With His Participation On June 30, He Clarified The Road He Would Follow In The Struggle
He witnessed the beauty of the life Leader APO created and made great effort to make himself part of this life. The effort to understand, learn, and create anew opened the way for him to develop rapidly. Guerrilla Serxwebûn always saw himself as incomplete; in order to complete himself and become a comrade worthy of his martyred comrades, he became one of the guerrillas who quickly and eagerly turned into a self-sacrificing militant in the ranks of the struggle. The aim of creating a stronger militant personality ideologically and militarily, and of showing a stance and participation in keeping with the spirit of the process, played a great role in the development of guerrilla Serxwebûn. He prepared himself for every task the organization placed before him.
With the words, “I want to bring myself to the militant personality and prepare such a ground for my women comrades that future generations will not have the same problems. Whatever the conditions and circumstances may be, I will fight within the party, and I will not die without defeating the enemy.”
In life and war, he became the follower of his word. With this desire, in 2018 he moved to the Heftanîn area and, with labor, comradeship, and enthusiasm, gained a great place in the hearts of his comrades in everything. He was wounded in an enemy attack there and remained away from practical areas for a time for treatment. Yet this process was difficult for Guerrilla Serxwebûn and he never accepted this situation. He always insisted on working again with his comrades, moving forward, and fighting.
He Always Took The Self-Sacrificing Life As His Basis
Guerrilla Serxwebûn now joined life with his spirit and with the excitement of recreating himself. This excitement for life became the basis of his bond with life and his comrades. He always worked with high morale and with the determination to succeed in every work and task given to him and to overcome every hardship. When his comrades saw his meaningful efforts, they welcomed working with him with great excitement. Serxwebûn, the lover of freedom who had a simple and honest participation, always took the self-sacrificing life as his basis and joined every work and task he went to with that spirit. Through his academy trainings, he created great depth in himself both militarily and ideologically. The martyrdom of his relative Serxwebûn (Sinan Serhat), who reached martyrdom as a result of the December 31, 2020 conspiracy, further increased the feelings of revenge in guerrilla Serxwebûn's heart. He made this martyrdom a reason to expand his struggle in order to carry the memory of the martyrs toward victory. The self-sacrificing guerrilla Serxwebûn fought against the occupation attacks launched by the Turkish army in the Şehîd Delîl Zagros area west of Zap and joined the self-sacrificing resistance.
Self-sacrificing Serxwebûn became one of the brave militants who dealt heavy blows to the occupiers. He became a militant of the historic resistance. As a capable fighter and militant, he fulfilled his duties with high success. He joined many revolutionary actions and operations. On January 12, 2024, in the foremost trenches, together with brave APOist militants, he took the revenge of years. To bring the Şehîd Helmet Derelûk revolutionary operation to success, he gave every cell of himself. Self-sacrificingly and without fear, he turned toward the enemy trenches. With his courage and selfless spirit, he opened the way for his comrades who came one after another behind him. He gave great labor for the success of this revolutionary operation in which 61 occupiers were punished. In a self-sacrificing style, in this revolutionary operation, he joined the caravans of Kurdistan's immortals.
