The ancient lands of Serhad have always revealed their identity, enriching their existence through the wholeness of life.

Like all families that rooted their commitment to Kurdish identity and culture, the Aytış family played a major role in keeping patriotic values alive through culture.

Serdem Pîr, whose given name was Adem Aytış, was born in the Taşlıçay (Panî) neighborhood of Erdiş district in Wan into a patriotic family conscious of its Kurdish identity. At a time when Kurdish existence was obstructed, cultural traditions were restricted morally and politically, and the people were made to see their land as unlivable, the people of Panî joined the PKK. They understood that the door to a free life opened through the reality of resistance and embraced that resistance.

Despite intense repression, the residents of Panî—where patriotism was lived at its height—participated in revolutionary work. Knowing that a free future could not be won without a price, they remained deeply attached to every sacrifice, defended their values, and made them immortal.

He Looks at History in Serdem's Spirit and Is Reborn

The martyrdom in 2011 of Serdem Pîr-İkram Kara, a relative from the same village, deeply affected Adem and increasingly surrounded him with vows of revenge. In 2014, when patriotism reached a peak, great resistance unfolded, and new values followed those made eternal, he set his course for the mountains of Kurdistan and joined the guerrilla in Tendürek. Out of loyalty to the memory of his martyred relative Serdem, whose example had prepared his participation, he adopted his name and became Serdem Pîr.

Living and participating in Serdem's spirit took form in Adem as though brought to life in another body.

After meeting the guerrilla closely and fulfilling his dreams in the Tendürek Mountains, Serdem felt life's greatest enthusiasm to his core. His practical intelligence always carried him one step ahead and enabled him to move toward the future with firm and confident steps. He questioned himself constantly in accordance with his aims and embodied the devotion required to recreate himself and unite with the self-sacrificing line on his chosen path.

His Smile Becomes an Expression of Simplicity

After some time in Tendürek, Serdem Pîr turned toward the Medya Defense Areas to develop on the path of self-sacrifice he had dreamed of. For more than three years he received ideological and military training there and created clear changes in himself. His modest, simple personality became a source of morale for his comrades. Bringing his color to every setting, his agility and warm comradeship made him a symbol of comradeship in Serdem's spirit.

His laughter and smile reflected simplicity and the color of life. Serdem Pîr constantly analyzed the land of his birth, the reality of his people, and his own identity, seeking the right way to participate in the period. His smile revealed his affectionate nature and expressed an even more enthusiastic participation.

He Becomes the Bearer of a Life and Labor of Sacrifice

Throughout his time in Xakûrkê, Serdem Pîr actively participated in the offensives. In every action he adopted self-sacrificing struggle and revenge as principles and advanced against the enemy. In the sacredness of labor and sacrifice, he pulled the trigger on the path to becoming a militant.

United with labor and making a life of sacrifice his principle, Serdem Pîr became immortal through the sacrifices he made throughout his life.

In his final action on Lêlîkan Hill, he fought to the last drop of his blood and reached martyrdom.

Living with the reality of the martyrs and upholding their memory is possible through a true life. To live with the martyrs, who embody truth, honesty, commitment, and free life, is to struggle at every moment and crown that struggle with victory.
