Through his immense effort and struggle, Leader APO developed a magnificent revolution in Western Kurdistan.
This revolution made its impact felt across all four parts of Kurdistan, while in the streets of Kobanê, steel-hearted fighters waged a fierce, close-quarters battle. With these attacks, the war in Western Kurdistan expanded day by day. Especially after ISIS was defeated in the city of Kobanê, fighting and clashes spread across every area. Yet the resistance of Kobanê also proved that the strength of the Kurdish people was far greater than this. If the daughters and sons of the Kurdish people, together with hundreds of internationalist youths whose hearts beat for freedom, could wage a relentless war in Kobanê against gangs that had no share in humanity, then this meant that the strength of self-sacrificing women and brave fighters was enough to confront anything.
Sara Cezayîr, known within the movement as Ararat Tolhildan, was deeply influenced by the stance of the free woman created by Leader APO. Within the Rojava Revolution, she saw the power of Kurdish women and came to believe in it. At first, she took her place within the youth movement. She was moved by the comradeship she witnessed and came to know inside the Apoist movement, and in this way, she made her decision to join.
The war waged in Kobanê left a deep impression on every Kurdish youth. As a woman who grew up in Kobanê and witnessed those historic moments, Ararat Tolhildan, with a firm decision, wanted to become part of this revolution, turn toward the trenches, and wage the war of existence and freedom against those ruthless forces. In this way, Ararat joined the war of liberation, took up arms at a young age, and defended her city against those oppressors.
After resistant Kobanê was liberated, Ararat turned this time toward the free mountains of Kurdistan. She received her basic training in Garê and learned the life of the guerrilla during this period. Amid the war and clashes being waged in the mountains of Kurdistan, Ararat saw specialized training as a necessity and requested to attend the military academies devoted to different branches. On this basis, she transferred to the Martyr Mahir Branch Academy. She completed sabotage training and learned the modern methods and tactics of guerrilla warfare. She became skilled in the era of modern guerrilla struggle and emerged from this training as an active, specialized guerrilla fighter.
Xakurkê holds a place in the history of the freedom movement as a land of resistance and defiance against the enemy. Every guerrilla who turns toward this area is inspired by the heroism of Martyr Bêrîtan and pledges victory in order to prove worthy of that resistance. After completing her specialized training, guerrilla Ararat Tolhildan also moved to the Xakurkê region, where she took part in practical work. She devoted great effort to protecting life and took effective measures against enemy attacks.
Ararat influenced her comrades through her determined stance and active participation. She considered herself ready for every duty. She was self-confident, self-sacrificing, and hardworking. She drew her enthusiasm from life. Whenever she took on a task, she thought on a broader scale and developed herself in every field. During the period when the enemy intensified its attacks, Ararat worked to make herself knowledgeable and skilled in all matters. As a freedom fighter, no matter where she was assigned, she rose to every difficulty and hardship with great effort and courage. With every step forward she took in life, Ararat came to recognize her own strength more clearly. She remained constantly active in order to uphold the values of her martyred comrades. She drew strength from her revolutionary accumulation and lived with the longing for the freedom of her homeland. She struggled so that the Kurdish people and all her comrades might see free days, and she resisted beside her companions in every trench.
From resistant Kobanê, she turned toward the peaks of the mountains and, through her life experience, learned the methods and tactics of modern guerrilla warfare. Her oath to liberate the homeland rose step by step, and she walked forward with her dreams. Within the Apoist movement, she carried on her war and struggle in accordance with the principles of freedom and with strong determination. In every moment of life, she stood as a defender of the line of freedom and patriotism and remained devoted to the values of comradeship. Because she believed in victory, her morale never weakened.
Ararat played a major role in many areas, from tunnel work to preparing battlefield conditions in the terrain. She protected life with great commitment and helped her comrades with sincere affection from the heart. For this reason, she was known among her comrades as a hardworking woman. She made great efforts to take her place in the front trenches and repeatedly proposed moving to the forward positions. In order for this request to be accepted, she entered into a process of intense effort, persistence, and concentration.
Ararat loved life. For that reason, no matter how heavy its price became, it never turned into an obstacle for her. Her hopes were high because she deeply loved the Xakurkê region. Whatever difficulties arose, she overcame them with patience and a broad spirit. Throughout history, Xakurkê had witnessed many brave women and men and many heroes. Their names had been written in golden letters on the pages of history. Ararat Tolhildan, too, would take her place within this magnificent history and become a symbol of the women who never bowed their heads and turned their path toward freedom.
Ararat embraced herself in the beauty she saw in the mountains of Kurdistan and wrapped herself in that splendor. She raised the flag of victory on the heights of those mountains and let it wave in the wind. In every moment of history, Ararat became the embodiment of the resistant spirit that fought in the trenches and took victory as its foundation.
After joining with sincerity from the heart and walking toward freedom with immense love, Ararat Tolhildan became, within those vows and decisions, a drop from the flowing waters of Lolan. Her spirit became a şilêr flower, bringing color to the geography of Xakurkê. She became a falcon, spread her wings, and flew above the peaks of the Şekîf and Evdilkovî mountains. The immortal martyr Ararat Tolhildan reached martyrdom in April 2024 in the Xakurkê region as a result of an air strike carried out by the Turkish state. Their dreams and aims of freedom will never be forgotten; those dreams will continue to grow and rise toward the skies of the homeland.
