Kurdistan People's Defence Forces

They say that when the road does not take you somewhere, it takes you to yourself. This is how your comrades begin and this is how they write you.

This is how they begin the life of being with you on the horizons of their country. In their hopes, wide mornings have not yet stopped. They rejoice when your name is spoken, as if taking a picture at dawn. Smiles bloom on their lips. They forget the longing of years and enter the dream of freedom with you.

In Serhed, young people wake from sleep with the sound of mothers' lullabies. On the slope of Tendûrek they hear the birds, in the middle of Gilîdax the hawks. It is as if Heçko sings me a familiar song. All of them resemble the footfalls of revolutionaries. They fall before my ear like a rhythm in every moment of thought. Wind, storm, rain, and all nature cooperate for this song. A new symphony is formed with your voice and the voices of your comrades.

Feelings Of Uprising Toward Freedom

Serdem Wan is born into a patriotic family. Without doubt, Wan has a historical and valuable place in the history of the freedom movement. The struggle carried out for years by the freedom movement has deeply affected the people of Wan. This just and rightful cause, begun from the freedom of the Kurdish people, has enabled participation in the guerrilla ranks in many cities and districts of Kurdistan. One of the cities where participation developed the most is the ancient and historical city of Wan. The occupiers, angered by the patriotism of the people of Wan, attacked them with all their policies of denial and annihilation. From assimilation to massacres, all were carried out against the people of Wan. But the people of Wan never bowed before these savage attacks. They always continued their struggle proudly in resistance against the occupiers. Serdem too is born in such a resistant and rebellious city.

The Road Of Honor

Serdem sees being born among such a patriotic people as one of the most sacred things for himself. Yet what was hardest for Serdem in his childhood was not being able to speak his mother tongue and not being able to live his culture. Like every Kurdish youth, Serdem grows up amid oppression and coercion. He sees those truths and builds within himself a rebellious personality accordingly. Serdem tries through his struggle to understand the reality lived within Kurdish society and wants to protect the values of his people. He takes his place in every action and leads the youth. Over time, the attacks carried out against the Kurdish people become harsher. Wherever attacks occur, the voice of resistance rises higher. Serdem takes his place in the foremost trench, within the uprising. But what keeps them standing is again the freedom movement. As Serdem grows, with great dreams and social consciousness, he draws closer to the freedom movement. Serdem knows, even if only somewhat, why his society is subjugated and why it is being annihilated. This enables him to recognize the reality of the occupiers as well. He cannot close his eyes and ears to the occupiers' policies. For this there is one road: joining the ranks of the freedom movement. Under the influence of the Kobanê and Şengal resistances and the martyrdoms being lived, Serdem joins the ranks of freedom. In 2015, with his revolutionary duty, Serdem turns toward the mountains of Kurdistan.

Everything Begins

What a harmonious word revolutionism is when it stands beside your name. Every harmony makes the hearts of your followers tremble. Each is different from the other and continues its flow without repetition. Each harmony speaks of a life and creates deep memories in minds. As much as it intoxicates the spirit, as much as it makes all bad things forgotten and binds one to freedom, it turns dreams into reality and realities into dreams. Now Serdem too reaches his free dreams and imaginings. On these mountains Serdem will become a guerrilla who is not forgotten; with his resistance and true comradeship he will become a guide for his comrades.

After Serdem crosses into the free mountains, he first receives his basic training. In training he develops himself ideologically and becomes an experienced guerrilla. For Serdem, knowing the reality of Leader APO means knowing the whole Kurdish society. Guerrilla Serdem sees the reality of the Kurdish people in the ideology built by Leader APO and reaches the truth. With the end of training, he moves into the field of practice. He carries out his first practice in the Heftanîn area. Heftanîn becomes for him the knowing of guerrilla life. He sees every moment he lives in Heftanîn as valuable. For Heftanîn has witnessed in its history many heroes who fell as martyrs heroically. On the soil of Heftanîn are the traces of freedom fighters. Serdem too wants to leave his own trace with his labor on the soil of Heftanîn. Serdem is a creative and intelligent guerrilla. Wherever there is need, he reaches that place. Therefore this time Serdem turns toward the fortress of resistance, the Metîna area.

Heavy Oppression And Resistance

When he crosses into Metîna, an unparalleled resistance is being carried out there. The occupiers attack the guerrillas with all their savagery. But the guerrillas who have adorned themselves with the thought and philosophy of Leader APO make the call of resistance in every trench. Serdem too, in order to uphold the call of his resistant comrade, turns toward the foremost trench of war.

The brave guerrilla Serdem prepares the battle trench in the war tunnel beside his resistant comrade. This sacrifice of Serdem and his desire for revenge draw the attention of all his comrades. He acts in life with a very great desire and warmth, like an APOist militant. When a militant of the APOist movement binds himself to freedom, then he recognizes no obstacle; with all his cells he follows the free life. He will not know death; he will choose an honorable life for himself; he will always keep alive the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the cause of freedom.

Toward You, Toward An Endless Thought

Within the freedom movement, the measure of comradeship and protecting one's values is at the highest peak. Every martyr leaves behind a follower of their trace. Serdem too is the follower of his martyred comrade. Until the end, he continues his march on the trace of the immortal self-sacrificing ones. To avenge his comrades, he turns to every method. He develops himself in the style of the modern and expert guerrilla and joins many actions. In every action he achieves success. Finally, in 2019, while going to his duty, he encounters an attack by the occupiers and joins the caravan of the immortals.

With sorrowful pains they wake from fearful dreams like a child waking from sleep. Every dream repeats like a farewell. Toward you, toward an endless thought, toward a dream in half-sleep flow those who lay their heads on the pillow with dreams of freedom. They bid farewell to the world without you and enter the road of the country's freedom. The martyrs who draw the measure of struggle out of darkness and leave it behind as a legacy are the most precious and sacred children of Kurdistan. Serdem Wan too became one of the most precious and sacred values of the people of Wan, the people of Kurdistan, and humanity.
